Pictures I download from my digital camera are over 2000 pixels wide. I use a program with 'batch' options to select and reduce the size of an entire folder full at a time to 50%. Microsoft Office Picture Manager allows you to do that. If you can't reduce all pics in the folder, you can at least do them individually from any editing program, normally under 'Image Size'.
