you need a 2 amp charger ,,because a 10 amp charger will damage the plates in it,,when you put it on charge with a 2 amp,,you need at least 12 hour charge in it,,be sure if you buy a charger,,that it is an automatic one,,this way it will not keep putting a strait charge in it,these chargers are not very expensive,,also they are good to charge your lawn mower battery up too so buying one will be a good investment,,i hope this helps, i am a mechanic,,and also a bike owner too.

If you are using a 'Trickle Charger' those small chargers that are easy to find at Walmart or K-Mart then most of them will automatically charge the battery as needed and then shut themselves down as the battery state of charge reaches a full charge. So you should be able to put it on a low charge setting and let it charge for a long time safely. But as always be safe and charge the battery in a safe location outside preferably or in a garage away from a source of combustion like gasoline cans or paint thinners or such.

The safest way to charge a motorcycle battery is with a battery tender.

It charges very slowly and will shut off when the battery is fully charged.

YOu can leave the tender on for months if need be, I do in the winter when I don't ride mine. The battery is six years old and still going strong.

10 amps is too much. it'll melt the plates together.
1-2 amps max-for 6 to 8 hours should get er done.
