how old are the kids? Work it into your time with them. I remember sitting on my fathers lap as he read the newspaper to me. and told me backstory. Don't remember a time when I wasn't a Democrat. I knew more labor history than my teachers. I got in trouble for correcting a teacher about the Abraham Lincoln brigade in the Spanish Civil war.
Perhaps you may want to to be less partisan. Perhaps you may want to warn your children that the truth may set you free but it doesn't make you any friends.
But I will always be grateful for my early education in knowing my *** from a hole in the ground. It's the best thing you can give your kids.

Yahoo main page has links to current news stories. You can get your news in about 5 - 10 minutes per day if you read just a few of the articles.
Foxnews.com is also good.

Newsweek and Time for the broadest coverage, the shortest and best read. Newsweek is still avail on line for free, access to time.com requires a subscription.
htgrnma says she learns from Y!Answers-- that's nice, but you probably know better or you wouldn't be asking your question.

National Public Radio. Listen to it while you are driving everybody to all their appointments. If they want to listen to music, get a plug in car radio and set it up to play to the back while you "fade" the radio to the front.

Make a news source your homepage, and read the items of interest, and then read the NYTimes over lunch.
