Independent experts working in the area of HIV/AIDS say the number of people infected in India could be anywhere between 2.5 million and 8.5 million - because of the lack of reliable data here in relation to the HIV pandemic.
UNAIDS puts the figures at 5.7 million infected cases.Government says there are 5.1 million cases in India.
But the fact is India has the highest no# of people infected by the deadly HIV virus in the world.It has recently surpassed South Africa(5.3 million),a claim that is contested by the Government of India.
This situation is a cause of concern,out of a population of 1 Billion,5.1-5.7 million already infected,so if my math is right its about 5% of the pupulation.

just search HIV victims in google....one of the top responses if you click on it goes to a site you can type in the country and it'll show about how many people are affected...it won't be a perfect number because some people die and become newly infected each day......
