Sure, Lex is phenomenally brilliant, but he's also obsessed, and he doesn't have any other powers. He's a one-trick pony, and Reed Richards would stretch out into a lasso, rope him, and break that pony like nobody's business!

Reed Richards is a brilliant scientist, but has a tendency to get distracted. Lex Luthor is a brilliant scientist and businessman who is obsessed with Superman.

That said, Reed, at first, would likely be beneath Lex's 'radar', so that gives Reed an advantage.

Plus, Reed could just have Ben Grimm show up and pound Luthor into the ground.
