They should be gone by then on their own if you keep your hands off of them! the more you touch them, the more they can spread. Keep them clean as well... If they get worse, go to the doctor and they can give you meds to help with the pain and to clear them up faster.

Okay, first think about the fact that cold sores are a variation of the herpes virus, and like all viruses don't go away over night. You can help the healing process along by using blistex or some other over the counter medicated ointment like Herpex. DO NOT USE CHAP STICK!! Chap stick is to moisten dry lips, not meant for cold sores. Keep the area clean and dry, apply the ointment as it says on the package and within a few days it should be gone. these cold sores are common, as over 70% of people have come in contact with the herpes virus at some time. The cold sores can be from simply kissing someone or drinking from the same glass with someone who has the virus. Nothing to be ashamed of, just need to be careful. If you see someone with a cold sore or know they get them periodically, don't kiss them or share drinks. Problem is there is no cure for them, just meds to keep them under control. Ask your doctor about it.

This is awful but it works. Dip a Q-tip in Listerine, apply it to the cold sore. (BRAND Listerine not a cheap spin-off.) Use a clean Q-tip for each sore.It will burn at first, but then it will be numb. Do this several times a day. This is the fastest way I've found to dry them up. Avoid touching them. Don't use lipstick or lip gloss as this will spread them around more. The cold sore virus lives at the base of nerves, so stop drinking anything with caffeine in it. Caffeine irritates nerves, and can cause a cold sore outbreak. Get lots of rest, drink lots of water. Start taking L-Lysine (an OTC enzyme) to avoid future outbreaks. Also, I carry Abreva in my purse. At the first sign of "tingling" I apply some on the area with a Qtip. It stops the virus from reproducing in it's tracks. If you apply it fast enough the cold sore won't even come up. Abreva is expensive but it is well worth it. It has stopped an outbreak several times for me. And one last tip: Stay out of the sun. It aggravates cold sores.

Get well soon and have a great semester at school.

Exceptionally, the reply that I to find most useful to that question is a lot more easy than persons are making it, no offense, however what I do (the cold sore should be gone inside half of an hour) is get a cotton swap, drench it in water, then add as so much salt as viable until the water now not absorbs it, then (and this is painful) rub it violently (don't go nuts) towards the bloodless sore.

This hurts like hell but works.

Wet your finger. Pour salt on your finger (so that it's covered). Rub salt into the cold sore for 60 seconds. Rinse with water, then avoid sugar and get plenty of sleep.

Try using carmex. It'll burn a little at first but it works great. I use to get cold sores when I had braces. It should only take a few days for them to go away depending on how bad they are and how often you put the carmex on. You should be able to get carmex at any drugstore or Wal-Mart.

I sometimes get them too. I went to my pharmacist who told me to take L-Lysome (I hope I spelled it right). It worked really well. It usually takes about 3 days for it to start working, but it does. You can buy it at the drug store-or any mass market-like Walmart-Kmart and it doesn't cost much at all.
