This is a magic ratio. No really. Or almost magic as you can find it everywhere.
At first look at the Fibonacci sequence
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, 144, 233…. You got the idea.
n + 1= (n-1) + n
let’s take these numbers and compute the ratio
233/144= 1.6180
0r 144/89= 1.6179
0r 89/55= 1.6181
0r 34/55= 1.6181
The golden ratio is 1.618 This is also called Phi (as in fie)
Also Phi=.5(1+sqrt(5))
Why is it a magic number? Look at some other instances of this ration that exists in the world (see the reference).

golden ratio is everywhere is nature.
the ratio is 1.618 is to 1
eg, our thighs and calfs are is a proportion of 1.618:1
arms too.
the ancient greeks built their buildings using the sides of the golden ration. it is said that such buildings would look more "beautiful".
for the same reasons, a performer will usually not stand on the middle of the stage but rather a little bit off to the side to to look too awkward (guess what, most of the time the distance to both ends of the stage is 1.618:1

there is a series known as fibonacci series.
0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,......
in this one number is the sum of the 2 preeceding nos.
eg.3=2+1, 5=3+2, ...
in this series if you take the ratio of two successive nos(ratio of greater to smaller) then you get a constant "1.618" almost every time
now ,the importance of this ratio is that it is the basis of the creation of universe
take the length of your full body ,divide it by the length from your hip to legs
it is approx. 1.618 same is true for different parts of the body
