surely someone has met or listened to a ghost?

Who knows? We may see a purple light! We simply bring these myths in so that we can feel safe and because, in this specific question, white is the color we accosiate with pure and good. but yet others believe that other colors are holy or good. it is all one question that is battled out between faith and logic. It is between religion and science, but we may never know. If you feel better if you believe that you see something, or something happens to you when you die, then believe it, but don't force others to do the same against their will or against their comfort. for it is only a belief, and we cannot be so arrogant as to believe that we are the most important and we are always right. heck, i might not even be right! but it is all on belief and perception. :))

Are you a Goth? The negativity you show towards life will be your downfall.
Negativity attracts negative beings to you and I fear that you will not see a white light when you die, for your state of mind will ensure that your afterlife will be full of those things you are "into" now.
Do you REALLY want to be in such a negative place, understand that we are not playing games here, like attracts like and you WILL live out your dreams, good or bad in the afterlife.

You can change this, but to do this, you must change yourself, look to the good that life can offer, instead of the negative.

I don't know you, but I suspect you feel depressed for much of the time, this is caused by the beings feeding from your energy field, to rid yourself of them, you need to think kind and loving thoughts about everyone if possible, but they will try to prevent you from doing this, you have to be persistent.
Maybe get help from a development circle or spiritualist church.

Some people claim to see this light, but it can not be proved either way at this time. Some say it's the soul leaving the body, some say it's the chemicals brain. But this happens so many times, and peopel see, and meet their loved ones OBE's happen nearly everyday, so i would say yes to your question, one way or another you see a light.

I have seen orbs in my house. They are small round shape things. No-one believes me and my family think Ive lost the plot, but I know what I saw and dont care what people think. They are suppose to be spirits. I believe in all that kind of stuff and have an open mind, so maybe thats why I saw them.
