In monetary value it is worth probably hundreds of thousands of dollars over a lifetime of work.

It is a maturing experience, teaches you to become a better problem solver. A college education can lead to a different life perspective and a different view of the world. It leads to personal growth, satisfaction, and experience and a deeper understanding of oneself and others.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

I'm a mature student. Studying architecture. I was working for a few years before returning to education. I could not be an architect without going to uni, and also graduates earn more.
I had a choice to stay in my £12000 a year job with a possibility of earning £20000 in the next 5 years, or do 7 years of uni and become self employed earning about £50000 a year. Easy choice really, lots of hard work but will be a job I enjoy whereas my mates all are in dead end jobs that they hate and pay badly!

Where I work, I sit in a comfortable chair in my own office and make more money because I have an education.

Those who don't have an education have to lift and carry very heavy material in the rain and snow for less money.

Having an education has clearly made my life better. Knowledge is power.

good question, as somebody who hires and fires.

if I'm hiring for a junior position and it comes down to a college/uni leaver just released into the wild or somebody with 6mth - 1 yrs experience. Im going to go with the guy with experience

reason: I find an unhealthy amount of arrogance in some graduates, just because they have done their 3 year course they assume they will be going straight in at the top, the ones who stay on to do their masters (uk) are the worst. because obviously 5 years of institution life prepares you for a management position in the real world ha ha ha!!

Some say it is to help you get a job earning more money but I think it's more about life skills and development. To get the most out of university it's best to live away from home and you will develop in so many ways. Obviously there is the intellectual development as well.

I've never had a job that didn't require a degree from an accredited university. Now days, a degree is the new HS diploma.
