Just wondered if anyone was an EMT... do you get competitive wages and decent health care??

At the company I work for in Alabama:

EMT-Basics get paid $8.00 an hour. If they are on a shift truck (24 on, 48 off) they get an average of 30 hours of overtime a paycheck. If they are hired part time, they get no benefits. If they are hired full time, they get a decent medical/dental package after 60 days, and a 401K plan after one year.

EMT-Paramedics get paid $10.00 an hour on the shift truck, and $14.50 an hour if they are assigned to the day truck (40 hours a week, no overtime). They get the same benefits as the EMT-Basic does.

Hope this helps!

Yes, for 20 years.
Never been paid money for being an EMT--only volunteer work.

EMTs don't make jack squat. The money is in being a Paramedic/Fire Fighter.
