I was just wondering if there is some kinda of form that ex-employers put into their reference towards new employers.
I have just been offered a new job, and they have told me they will be writting for references from previous employers. I have never had many problems with any employer, however I am currently off work sick due to a knee injury, I am almost recovered however. Will they place this in the reference?, could it possibly affect my offer of employment.

It depends what the new employers ask. They will usually ask about sickness record. I would have thought that on your application they would ask you about that yourself, most companies normally ask how many days you have taken off sick in the last 2 years.

If you have written something different and they find out the truth from your current employer, then you might be in trouble.

My friend had an atrocious sickness record and when she went for a new job they made her go for a medical - she got the job in the end though...

It depends on what they ask but from what I know most employers just ask if the old boss would be willing to rehire. A simple yes or no is usually all they get. Some business's are different though, like I know Circuit City has a whole test you gotta pass first -_-*

Normally ex-employers do not give too much info to new employers to keep themselves out of trouble with the law. I know that they can say if your dates of employment are correct, possibly if your job title was correct and if they would hire you again (or not).
