One of the reasons that dark clothes fade in laundry is that most city public water works use chlorine to kill germs and bacteria. There really isn't much you can do. I have seen people write that you can insert sea salt or vinegar in the wash water to help set the dye. Some write to immerse the clothes in pure vinegar before washing, but this seems extreme. Perhaps try this on clothes that are extremely sensitive to the wash cycle.

The best you can do is use cold water, and add lots of vinegar.

We installed a home filtration system that strips the chlorine from the house water. We found it at www.lifesource.com. We experience no fading now, and the water out of the faucet in spring water quality. No more buying bottled water.

Since I have a full load of dark clothes I use Cheer Dark Formula.
This helps neutralize the chlorine in the tap water. I'm sure it does not stop all fading but I can sure tell the difference when I don't use it. I hand wash special black clothes in Woolite and still see some color lost in the water.

Wash them inside out. Use a non-bio washing powder. Set the washing machine temperature to the heat recommended on the clothing label.

Wash them with other black clothes using a suitable washing product. Don't dry them in sunlight, as they will fade. If things get too grey, try using a washing machine dye (Dylon do a good one) to restore the black colour.

do not placed them in the dryer. i ended drying my clothing in the dryer numerous years in the past. After washing them, I do placed them in for type of 10 to fifteen minutes to air fluff out different wrinkles (no warmth). Then I placed them on hangers to dry. we've a lot less fading by technique of no longer making use of a heated dryer. another area of try is wash you clothing interior out. I listen that still helps, yet i do not make an attempt for this step.

Wash ALL dark items together, and use Ariel colour powder. Dont dry them outdoors on a sunny day- its the sun that helps fade them. Use a 40 degree wash programme, and dont let them get so dirty that you have to use a hot wash.

The best way to keep darks and any other color from fading in the wash is to soak them in vinegar for 10 minutes before washing them. We do this to our scrubs to help maintain their color. Some people use epsome salt also, but vinegar works well too. Once you soak them the first time the color locks in and will stay darker/brighter longer. Hope thise helps.

First wash only with other dark clothes, next try "Tide" for dark clothes and if you are still having fading issues. Add salt to the clothes you don't want to fade. GOOD LUCK!
