I/O means Input / Output.
It is used for input connections such as keyboard, mouse, and scanner. For output, they include printer and display.
The computer flow logic is very generic.

Closed or open circuit for example it refers to when your Pc is switched on or off.(near the button you'll probably see that symbol)
It also depends on the voltage that is passed in the circuit

I/O means Input/ Output subsystem.
CPU (central processing unit) uses number of devices to communicate with outside world (with user). Based on flow of data i.e. information flowing in to CPU or Out of CPU, devices are term as Input or output devices
In simple definition: Input Devices are devices through which we can feed data instruction/commands to CPU (central Processing Unit).
Input devices are Keyboard, Mouse etc.
Output devices are devices where we can observe results.
Output devices are Screen (Monitor), Printer, Plotters.

Two possibilities come to mind, depending on the context it could be Input/Output or it could be On/Off (in the first case, the characters are letters "I" and "O", in the second instance they are numbers "1" and "0").
