I have invented my gerbil's wheel to generate electricity when he uses it but how can I train him to use it at night if he sees a burglar trying to break into so my room lights up and frightens the burglar away?

You're thinking about this in the wrong way. You need to train it to be an attack gerbil that bites.

Anyone who's ever had a gerbil will tell you how much that hurts. A screaming burglar will definately wake you. You'd just have to let the gerbil have free roam of the house at night.

Anyway how can you sleep with it running on the wheel all night? You should patent the electicity generating wheel - just think of all the money you'd make. You'd then be able to afford a real security system.

Do u have a lot of burglars where you live at? Buy, a alarm system or a gun!! Your gerbil can't do the job!!!

Easy. You're already halfway there.
Now all you need to do is train him to run the wheel when he hears a bell,
then attatch the bell to both the window and door.

Wouldn't work. Gerbils are notoriously unreliable and are easily bribed. A haddock is much more trustworthy.

use a clicker and give treat when the rodent does it right, use cattleprod when the gerbil does something wrong (but don't set the voltage too high, they're too cute)

Don't know, tho they are using rats as mine detectors in Mozambique...not kidding! The rats can smell the explosive buried underground and scratch to tell their handlers where the mines are.
