My family is British and i have a British passport and we are moving to Liverpool at the end of the year. My girlfriend is currently studying Law and is going to come with my family. What would be the best way for her to apply for her a visa? She has a South african passport.

To apply for a student visa your girlfriend will first need an offer from a University in the UK that is registered with DFES. Once she has an offer she can apply for a student visa at the British High Commission in Pretoria.

As alternative to the student visa is the working holiday visa available to Commonwealth citizens under 30 years of age. This visa is valid for 2 years and allows the holder to work for 1 year of this time. You cannot study on a working holiday visa.

she does need a visa as south africans are NOT part of the EU!

She will need to go to the british embassy in Pretoria to apply for a 2 year working holiday visa, after that she will need to either get sponsored by a company or get married to remain in the uk.

I would advise you to go to your local travel agent for help and pay a little extra to get them to help her asthe process can be tricky.
