AVERAGE 98.6 is just that-average.I run below that all the time.I'd be concerned about my kid too, so depending on how low it is ,like 96 I'd call an M.D.

98.6 is a guide, not a rule. My normal temperature is 97.5. My son's normal temperature is around 99 degrees. As long as he is healthy and the temperature isn't more than a degree or two from the normal, then everything is fine.

How below average? A degree or two I would say no. Some people's average temp is lower than 98 degrees.

No. 98.6 is an arbitrary average. Some people have a "normal" of 97, for others 99 is their "normal". As long as the kid is healthy, that's what counts.

I get that, I get retro-grade fevers. My temperature never raises above about 97.1. When I get sick it goes down. Lowest it has been down to was about 92.5 (that I measured anyways). I have never been up over 98. So it does happen. I don't know why. But don't worry about it. Other then the desire to kill every pretty thing I ever see, I am just fine.
