You may have a hard drive failure. You need to replace the hard drive. You can probably buy another one and insert it into the other port. Boot from the new hard drive and copy the files from the old one if you still have any. If you have some valuable data on that hard drive and it does not work you need to bring it to a data recovery center.
There is not much you can do to fix the hard drive now. If it is new then you should contact the manufacturer. If it is more than 4 years old it is likely that you have a hard drive failure.

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like your hard drive is failing. If your Hard Drive is a Maxtor, Western Digital or Seagate ( Seagate is now owned by Maxtor) you can download diagnostic software from there respective websites, it is possible SOMETIMES for the software to repair the drive. However, the clicking sounds are a sign of serious problems. I suggest you backup all of your important data quickly and purchase a new hard drive, or bring your PC into your local repair shop.

this happened to me a month ago... I hate that blue screen of death.... back up your files asap, it's going to crash... the clicking noise indicates the hard drive is going bad.

Your drive is about to fail. Check the drive type and check to see if you can download a diagnostic tool from the maker's website. Somtimes it will help repair errors enough to get to read the data back off of it.

I agree with everyone else pickup a new harddrive, but I have another recommendation on how to get your files. Order a external enclosure for your current harddrive, install Windows on your new one and retrieve your files from the old via the external enclosure.

one of two problems... there is a bad sector that it's trying to read, or it is about to die completly...

I would suggest getting a new hard drive (or using a different one if you've got s a few there), format it, install windows, then copy what you want off the old one...
