As long as the hernia is there, there is always the chance of a little piece of intestine getting caught in the tear of the omentum. I have dealt with a hernia before by massaging it gently to make sure nothing is caught up in it (strangulated) but unless it's an infant (some infant hernias heal on their own), most of these hernias will eventually need surgery. The surgery is simple, the scar it leaves virtually un-noticeable, so you may as well get it repaired. Just choose a doctor that you like and get it over with.

An umbilical hernia occurs when intestine, fat, or fluid pushes through a weak spot in the belly. This causes a bulge near the belly button, or navel. The holistic approach toward hernia remediation is applicable only to those inguinal hernia cases that have been evaluated by a competent physician who is experienced in this particular specialty. If an inguinal hernia is in jeopardy of strangulation, then surgery may be the only intervention that will successfully repair the hernia site. Likewise, if a hernia is irreducible over the long term and adhesions form, surgery may be the only alternative.

Your hernia will not heal itself no matter what natural things you do. It does require surgery, make sure that you go to a hernia doctor as they do the best work. Hernias over time tend to get larger and more symptomatic. They are easier and more successful to repair when they are small.

Listen to the above answers. They are good advice. Hernia's will not heal themselves.
Surgery is your only option at having this fixed.
