A Shoe Salesman who, if memory serves me correct, never went to college nor was ever a Lawyer, unlike many US presidents!
It was one of the few, if not the only, US Presidents that was truly a common man!
He took over from Roosevelt after Roosevelt died and his first job was to decide to use or not use the A Bomb and that project was so secret that He didn't even know we had been working on it for 4 years (although the Kremlin knew all about it).
His nickname, I believe, was 'give 'em Hell Harry' and his wife once told a story about the day she brought him to speak at her woman's club and several women came to her afterwards and thanked her, but wanted to know why Mr. Truman used the term Manure so much and Mrs. Truman said: "Do you know how LONG it took me to get him to use THAT particular word!"
He won a second term by a small margin and one paper actually put out a headline giving the victory to the other guy! Truman proudly held it up for all to see.
Truman dropped the bombs on Japan and also was involved in the Korean conflict.
Eisenhower took over the PResidency after Truman.
