But what is a Zionist, is it a word for a Jew because l don't hear it being used in the UK.

A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel.

It's strange that the term is used to describe Jews.
Mt. Zion is located in Jerusalem.
