Well, the whole system has plusses and minuses.
Sure, it's meant to "condition" people to give certain types of useful answers. The new rating system (where any answer, not just B.A., can be rated) is designed to counter "stupid" or non-serious answers.
[Then again, the people who make such posts probably don't care if they are badly rated anyway, soooo....]
It's sort of fun watching the people with the most points in YA battle things out every week to take top position -- I wonder how many ratings they make without really reading the answers/questions, or how much of it is just to rack up the points.
I have to admit, it's tempting to try to rack up my own point score -- which is funny because there's no real "carrot" at the end of the stick. I get nothing, really, for having a high point score versus a low one... except maybe being taken a little more seriously, depending on my "level."
We're all so human sometimes. I've sometimes felt tempted not to answer certain questions because I know it will never be picked as B.A., and thus will ruin my "percentage." Or I am tempted to answer in a certain way that I perceive WILL probably get me chosen, to buff up my score... I don't like that ugly side of things.
I usually remind myself all the time why I am here (to share myself with others, hear what others are going through, and give what help/encouragement i can) and try to offer what the other person needs, rather than focusing on my own point score.
But, boy, Pavlov sure discovered a neat trick, huh? :)

Yes, time consuming; no, futile. To me, the points are not the point. I enjoy the questions, enjoy finding answers, and really get a kick out of having someone like my answer enough to pick it as best, especially if it helped them out in some way or they thought it was funny. Points? What points?
You sure have a lot of points!

My church doesn't have bells. also, i'm someone, no longer a canine, so I doubt i'd salivate merely from a bell. i ask your self on the intentional rudeness of such an rather good type of anti-faith questions right here. Do you actually imagine you're by some skill a more effective efficient individual because you mock those with faith in a deity? Do you imagine that your perception that there is not any deity by some skill makes it suited to demean others? in my view, i visit't see that you're a more effective efficient human than me, in accordance to questions like this. Edit - Wow, studying the solutions all i visit claim is; what a good exhibit of malice from the non-believers. i visit understand and understand your non-perception, yet i detect the chronic tries to denigrate believers to be infantile and an organization rationalization why i doesn't opt to resign my faith. a minimum of my faith teaches me to target to manage others with decency and understand. curiously the human beings right here don't sense that different people are worth of understand. i ask your self, is it merely those with faith that you disparage or are you this rude to everyone? What a tragic, unhappy exhibiting you human beings make for humanity.

Only if you answer stupid questions. ask stupid questions, and rate stupid questions. If you learn or help some one not a waste.
Rating may be by points but I think people respect certain names and disrespect as well because of the time they took to accurately answer the question, how they rated.. I think reputation is far better than points.

Yes, but since it has kicked my O.C.D. into high gear, I am compelled to participate until both of my personalities are completely satisfied that there is no point to the whole thing.
OK, and I admit I just plain like answering the darn questions!

No, it encourages people to give proper and concise answers to others questions in the hope of gaining extra points.
And stops idiots from asking to many stupid questions like "wanna see my ****" by making us lose points, thus meaning people should in theory have sensible questions and answers.
It helps to keep things organized I think.

Eventually you have to give up worrying about the points and focus on the questions and the answers. I enjoy answering questions, and i love it when my answer is picked as Best Answer. That is why I continue on Yahoo Answers!.

nope. keeps me from dying from boredom at work. plus its the psychological reward of knowing that your answer was rated better than others' therefore making your opinion better than that of other people and making you feel more intelligent.

yes...seems unecessarily competitive and encourages people to write dumb answers just to get points. I think we should form alliances and support people's answers to help them raise their scores and have more power
