The current World Health Organization definition of prematurity is a baby born before 37 weeks of gestation, counting from the first day of the Last Menstrual Period (the LMP).

Premature birth carries greater risks the earlier it occurs before that 37-week goal. A baby born a little prematurely may suffer few if any consequences. The earlier in fetal growth and development that birth takes place, the greater is the likelihood that life-support systems will be needed, and the greater the risk for birth defects and death.

Many procedures are available to prevent early birth, from bed rest to medications. If premature birth is medically necessary or inevitable, however, it may be accomplished via C-section to limit stress on the fetus and protect it from damage.

Weight is not a factor. In order for a baby to be classified as preterm/premature, they have to be born before 38 weeks gestation. Normal/ to term babies are born from 38 weeks to 42 weeks gestation.

Any baby born prior to 37 weeks gestation, is considered a premie. My daughter was born at 36 weeks, 3 days & was considered a premie. The hospital I had her in told me that they don't really go by weight any more when it comes to premies. The magic number used to be 5 lbs., but my daughter was 4 lbs., 9 1/2 oz. at birth & their only concern was that she was eating & eliminating regularly. I had to set my alarm when I first came home to get her up every 4 hrs. to eat - cause premies would rather sleep than eat - but after 3 or 4 days of doing that, she started waking up on her own every 4 hrs. to eat. She's now almost 8 yrs. old & even a bit chubby. I hope that answers your questions.

My oldest was born at 36 weeks and she was considered a pre term baby. The weight does not have much to do with it. It is how far the baby is developed.

If i've got mentioned it as quickly as, i've got mentioned it 1000 situations around right here: Do you somewhat have faith that if a soul is meant to be born, that your god ought to no longer discover yet another doorway for it to be born with the aid of? A fetus is a *skill* new child, not greater, no much less. And in case you have faith in an eternal soul, why in the international could you think of that abortion means the tip of that soul? something can not be "murdered" until eventually its been born. And so some distance as Dr. Tiller, definite, I do see him as a hero. He saved womens' lives and replaced into killed for it by utilising an anti-decision extremist. previous due-term abortions at the instant are not achieved for the hell of it, they're medically mandatory, in any different case appearing them could have been unlawful anyhow. each and every of the hype approximately previous due-term abortion is in hassle-free terms a pink herring utilized in a feeble attempt to outlaw all abortions.
