Well don't know but he sounds like a Misogynist. The time frame ur referring to is wen women were allowed to be 'indisposed' for the least little thing and men had to accept that. Although history teaches us it was a sexist time, the writings of the day show that women were cosseted and deterred from any physical activity other than walking and riding. So maybe he wasn't as sexist as he sounds. (that's not taking in to account the poor or working class who had it really hard but as most of them didn't read or write they probably didn't make the statement)

Some rich guy in the 1800s who decided he wanted some sort of angelic, china doll at home to hump rather than a real person. It became popular because to the poor men of the time, it became a status symbol to have the woman at home. Then the busy bodies took over and added a conservative moral bent to it. It only changed again when the capitalists realized that half the population was at home doing labour that that they couldn't make a profit off so they joined sides with the "feminists" fighting this misogyny and created the world we have today. My point, no matter how you cast it, we (men and women both) are always going to be a bee-atch to "the man."

I am not sure who first uttered those words, but I AM sure he was sorry the thought had crossed his mind... That is worse than any "fat butt" joke I have ever heard... I am sure he had a lot of "couch time" after this comment, accompanied by a LOT of solitude.......
