Stop making such a mess. If everybody picked up their own droppings and junk there would be no mess.

You know, it's easy to beat up your wife about how careless she is with keeping the house clean. My husband helps me keep things picked up. The house belongs to both of us. We both made the mess, and we both clean it up. He does most of the laundry (mostly 'cause I've got really bad knees and have a hard time getting down the stairs). He doesn't complain or whine, just gets it done. He sometimes cooks too. There's nothing wrong with you that you can't help too. Since you can't afford a maid, work out a schedule with her, sharing the chores. You just might inspire her to take over, because she'll love you for helping her. <*)))><

Okay...this is something that hits a nerve with me. What the hell is wrong with you doing some housework? Maybe if you chipped in every once in a while the wife wouldn't feel overwhelmed. Have you asked her if there is a particular reason why she is unkempt--and when you say careless in housekeeping, what exactly are we talking about? You have to search for clean socks, dishes piled in the sink for days on end? Or is it just a little clutter here and there but for the most part your home looks lived in? You don't need a maid buddy....strap that apron on yourselves and get busy....

Hubby and I tag team it. We divided chores. He daily does the vacuuming, washes floors, keeps the basement clean, the laundry and the yard work, baths the dogs. I scour the kitchen, bathroom and dusting done daily and run the errands and cook all of the meals. The work is divided always the same. I hate his chores and he hates mine ...so it works for us. We both work full time and hate nasty mess.

is she working also? if so you need to help. if not I would only pay bills not give her any money, money don't come free you have to earn it. I really don't know what to do ,I have complained for years it didn't do any good, I gave up and did everything myself, and i work full time.12 hr days. now the kids are older they help a little.

Your wife is not your maid. If she is not cleaning the house to your satisfaction, then clean the house yourself.

throw hints that you'd like her to be more clean, start to clean up and ask her to help, or just flat out tell her that she needs to to clean more
