Because they will need to revise their plans accordingly? I mean, it's not like everybody was telepathic and knew you want to shift things around, just like that...

Becasue they need to make changes to their arrangements too! If you're going to leave a job, they will need to find a replacement and to allow time for advertising, interviewing etc. and obviously for your replacement to give notice at their present job ... It's all about manners really - to get to a Friday night and announce you won't be working somewhere on the Monday morning would be a bit rude don't you think?

Answering this question sounds like getting lines from the boss.
As I have graduated, and freelance from home; I won't bother answering it.

oh, all right.

If I have to break my word to my customers, they'll need time to revise their own plans.
If I don't, my customers will not meet their deadlines and lose money and business.
I could get sued but most likely just lose this customer and anyone he deals with.

people are the most crucial resource in a work place. This is because it is them who utilise other resources, in order to get "things" done. Sufficient notice is neccessary because we are all a part of a chain and changes in our routine willdefinately affect others. They, therefore, need advance notice about any upcoming changes in their normal day to day work.

So that they can plan to cover your work whilst you are away, or if you are cancelling some booked time off it is so that they can let those know who were covering for you.
