I worked for a paper last year. I was amazed at how little the people got paid. For a route that takes about 3 or 4 hrs a day, they got about 400 a month. This is nothing when you consider the wear and tear it puts on your vehicle. Even the route manager admitted it was not a good idea. I think it would be best for retired people who do not really need the money. They would just be doing it for something to do. Maybe in much larger cities they pay more but the city I live in has about 40,000 people.

I had a paper route from the time i was 10 to 14, I got 2 dollars per month per house, and also 15 cents from each extra paper I sold.
I had about 80 houses and I made about 250 dollars per month. I found a trick when I was 12 to increase my profits.
When they give you papers to sell, like I had 80 papers plus 25 extra papers to sell each day, then I would return the unsold and pay the difference. I found that if I sold all I could sell really fast, then I could go to one of those automatic machines, I would pay 50 cents and take ALL the papers. Then I delivered those to my 80 houses. I returned the rest of the papers and always made more money.

If I were you I wouldn't suggest going and working for a paper route because it's your responsibility if the paper doesn't get to the house, such as if the neighbor took it, and they would take that out of your paycheck.....which isn't that much around here. It just depends on where you live I guess.
