Basically want to know what a druid is and what they do? Wikipedia only talks about religion, and I only want to know in terms of games.

In gaming, a Druid is a class of character who is usually human, or maybe a split race. They can usually only fight with blunt weapons such as a quarterstaff and they tend to use magic. Unlike a Cleric who mostly does defense magic & healing stuff, a Druid can also do offensive magic, like fire & such.

I might be confusing the two, but I think that a Cleric's magic is directly tied to how much they pray & how close to thier 'god/goddess' they are.

Their alignment is mostly good, though in a rare case I've seen a neutral Druid.

They're not my usual picks to run a ~C~ because they're not as healthy or strong in the beginning & I tend to die a lot, so I usually go with a fighter/mage or something like that.

I hope I'm answering this okay since I'm not quite awake yet. Need more coffee. Anyway, Clerics and Druids confuse me sometimes, but they're fascinating characters. If I'm wrong, then I hope someone corrects me so you'll get clarification.

Druids are tree huggers aka nature lovers :)

The druid class essentially is a class which is supposed to be one with nature and derives and channels their energy/spells etc via nature. Hence they can summon animals, adopt animal forms (which is known as shapeshifting) or get energy/magic from the sun/moon/earth/trees (whatever lol) to battle, to buff (i.e to increase or add special abilities to one or one's weapons) and to heal.

I have a lvl 60 druid on World of Warcraft...who can transform to a cat (which can stealth), a bear (which has high armor), or a cheetah (which can travel with more speed as compared to other classes with the exception of a shaman), and a seal (aquatic form which can swim underwater without the aid of underwater potions). Depending on what one likes to play, the druid can either be a tanker (one which is like a warrior and fights upfront) or a supporting class like a healer/caster who does secondary damage. In World of Warcraft, because of the stealthing ability of druids in cat form, they are great at PvP (player vs player) catching the enemy player unawares and winning by the element of surprise.

It;s a fun class to play. Most people in World of Warcraft do think that druids are overpowered hehe :P.

In Games Such as World of Warcraft or D&D a druid is simply one in touch with nature. In WoW they recieve animal forms that they can change into making them a very versitile class. In normal form theycast spells and heal. As a bear they can Tank. As a cat they use stealth. besides the major forms there are also: Travel form wich allows you to move much faster, Aquatic form wich allows you to move fast underwater, and Moonkin form, a high armor form allowing easy casting of balance spells, or damage spells, normally used in normal form. Weapons are limited to Dagger, Staffs, and Maces(with training) as well as a few others that require training such as hand weapons and polearms
As for D&D i'm not quite as sure, I know you cast spells and heal, and you also have an animal familiar you choose (I know this because I'm a ranger). For more info on D&D druids try checking a player's handbook. they have alot of info on classes.

Druid are asimilar to clerics. They use "white" magick to heal, and boost attacks. They (normally) aren't very good at direct attacks of their own. In some games, however, druids are a mix between a Sorceror and a Cleric, and can do both "black" and "white" magick. They still don't have very good weapons attacks.
