I'd have to say Alexander.
Considered to be an anomaly in military history, he was never defeated in battle, relentlessly pushing his army across vast lands, conquering enemies and defeating a near-mutiny by his own men.In 323 B.C., the year of his death, his empire included vast lands that are now known as Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Israel, Iraq, Iran, and India.

In view of actual conquering, the Arab's after their revival through Islam forged an empire greater than the world has ever seen.

Niether Alexander nor the modern day United States have control over such a large area as them.

Napoleon. From his beginnings as an obscure artlllery lieutanant he rose in a few years to become 'Emperor" of France and conquered virtually every country he coud reach. He successfully fought off hordes of opponents defeating them repeatedly. Undoubtedly one of the greatest if not the greatest military mind in history he struck fear into all of Europe for almost 20 years. What also sets him apart is that he was fighting opponents as advanced as his own, not simply overunning primitive people or natives. A great Leader.

If you mean conquerer of places, I would say Constantine or Alexander the great. He conquered pretty much all of Europe and some of Africa. He actually broke down and wept when he realized that there were no more countries for him to conquer.

Temujin(Genghis Khan). Not only did he rule over the largest contiguous land empire in the world, he also managed to keep it from falling apart after or even before his death, something the other contenders( IMO, Alexander and Napoleon) cannot claim. Plus, it's not like uniting tribes that have never been united before and crushing a technologically superior opponent(China) is very easy either...

Charles Darwin.

He toppled a whole set of ideas with his developments on natural selection, survival of the fittest, and evolution, and he did it against popular belief.

His ideas however havn't conquered the whole globe yet, as there are still pockets of resistance, but anyways. There is my opinion!

There is only one, and that's Ghengis Khan, over 12 million square miles of land, more than the Roman Empire, Alexander the Great's and Hitlers conquests combined.... And the only reason it didn't get bigger was because of his death, the armies were recalled to attend his funeral. The european knights couldn't stand up against a mobile archer-force....(at least that's my opinion).
