For the longest time it was West Side Story, with The Sound of Music in a close second. However, nothing can compare to Bazz Luhrman's Moulin Rouge. Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGreggor. The original was great. But this one exceeds expectations.
The music, the colors, the photography, the backgrounds... breathtaking. A roller coaster full of different emotions.

Definitely Grease! Although I love High School Musical, too. Grease is just the ultimate. Who can beat John Travolta and Olivia Newton John? What a classic!!

Once upon a time I had a bout of insomnia. I was staying at my mother's at the time. I ended up raiding her video collection of movie musicals (Oklahoma, Seven Brides, South Pacific) to while away the wee small hours. Unashamedly, I took a liking to them and even found myself singing showtunes in my head on my way to work, some mornings.
My favorite musical, however, would have to be Carousel.

The King and I - classic - Yul Brenner is incredible
Rent - I haven't seen the stage version yet
Rocky Horror Picture Show - Has a great message if you can get past the campiness, plus Tim Curry in women's underwear

I like rent. I just love the comraderie and the music. It's a wonderful rock opera on broadway 2.
