it's definitely not moonlight sonata because I know that one inside and out...
It's a bit by haydn, piano sonata 59 in E Flat Movement 2, only it's played off tempo.

Most of the music was originally written for the film except for things like the piece Lestat plays right before Claudia betrays him. That is by Haydn and the part he plays is three minutes into the piece.
The Interview with the vampire soundtrack was nominated for an Academy Award.
The song Lestat played after he returned from the swamp was Sonata In E Flat Hob. XVI 49 Adagio E Cantabile by Joseph Haydn.
