I think this is totally disgusting, especially as we have to fork out £88 per month in council tax... I have to go to the skips at least 4 times a fortnight to dump the bin bags that I have to collect from around my bin, in a vein attemp to stop the wasps/flies and cats from trying to eat the contents.
What is the point in it? is it to promote recycling? they provide us with recycling tubs for cans/bottle etc and a bag for paper... but i still find that i am unable to 'contain my waste' in one bin a fortnight!
is it to reduce landfill waste? nope, because where does the rubbish from the skips go? yup to the landfill sites!
if's just disgraceful...

I have a wife and three kids, one of which is a 12 month old baby, so nappies are a problem.... so is the smell, even in nappy sacks, because they are in there so long!
the council will give extra recycle tubs, I have had one extra, but the problem is not the recycling it's the rest of the waste...
I can't help the fact that my food comes in packaging....
beans come in tins
cornflakes in boxes
tea in boxes
etc etc etc...
do i open the beans in the supermarket, and leave the tin there!??

I sent a link to this conversation to my local council's 'waste management' team, inviting them to make comment.... still nothing.

oh and mr battersplat, i believe this is a forum for airing opiions, freedome of speech and all that... clearly you don't have any issues with bags of rotting and decaying chicken carcases on your doorstep... so maybe in your little world this is tedious, but this issue affect thousands... and why should we just bend over and take it up the tail pipe.

The piles of black plastic sacks and overflowing waste bins are part of a council strategy to make Wrexham look better.

It's not just you!!! I live near Blackpool and it is the same here!
I pay well over £100.00 per month for my Council tax and i have my bins emptied every fortnight.
Do you not have other ways that you can recycle, i.e. do you have a box for cans and bottles and a bin for paper etc?
We have all of these and I find that if you really filter through your rubbish that would normally go into the general bin you end up saving a lot more room.
I know it is a pain and really time consuming but, at the end of the day, the government are doing nothing about this so we just have to grin and bear it I'm afraid.
Don't get me wrong i'm really disgusted with them only empying them each fortnight and do think that it should be on a weekly basis.
If you have a large family, i.e. more than 5 people living in the same house, you may be eligable for another bin to be delivered.
From what you say in that you fill your bin and then have to take extra rubbish to the skips, you must have a large family or else you are just using too much junk!!!!
Speak to the Council regarding this point.

I agree with you that it is disgraceful.
I wonder whether it is some central government guideline as we have this problem in Canterbury too. They collect the ordinary rubbish one week and clear sacks with paper, tins and other things they sort out to recycle the next. The Council won't collect bottles at all: you have to take them to the bottle bank, which uses more petrol than the bottles are worth if you only have a few.
Also, compared to the past you have to put the wheelie bin on the pavement. You are not meant to do it until the day, but sometimes they come about 8am. in the morning. And they are talking nationally of fixed penalties for people who put the bin out on the wrong day. What a money-spinning rip off!
I live with an elederly relative, in a street with other elderly people. It is not reasonable to expect elderly people to remember a complicated collection cycle, or to put their bins out. Also, Canterbury is plagued by student houses and they have problems when they clear out before they go on vacation (remember, you must not put out your bin in advance).
Two weeks is bad enough, but if you miss a collection the bin will be absolutely totally unhygenic and smelly after a month.
People set up voluntary schemes, a good idea, to collect our recycleable rubbish. But now they have been taken over by jobsworth councils and are used to make people's lives a misery. You will never encourage people to recylce by bullying them.
You have hit something I feel strongly about. Get onto your councillors, for a start, and get campaigning.

Having spent a summer placement working for a county council waste management department:
It is to encourage you to reduce your waste. In theory you should be able to cut your waste down sufficiently so that you don't overfill your waste bin. Maybe you need to seperate recyclables out more, or compact your waste. It's also possible that you do just create that much waste for your bin. Though how you manage that I don't know: my girlfriend and I could manage with the bin only being emptied about once every three weeks, at a stretch every four. If your bin is just too small, talk to your council about a bigger one.

Oh this is indeed a sore point! I'm in Shropshire and same applies.
My biggest gripe is the amount of JUNK and UNSOLICITED MAIL posted by The Royal Mail. It fills my bin and they expect ME to recycle it! I now collect it all and return it to the Post Office via the local pillar box! It helps save space in my bin for genuine waste.
I urge you all to do the same!

yeah thats wrong. councils want to keep the streets clean so they should collect the waste at least weekly. In Swansea at the end of term there were two collections in a week.
