I'm referring to the saying "The mind boggles." which you say when something weird happens or you can't begin to understand something.
And you'd never say, He boggled. Or my cat boggles. No, it's just the mind that boggles.

I think the mind is the only thing that can be boggled. But not the only thing that boggles. "That is mind boggling! That boggles my mind!"

Boggle is a strange word.

Actually, there was a board game called "Boggle" that was popular a few years back. So, it would follow, that it would be proper, in this intsnce, to say he boggles "played the game," or boggled, is boggeling, plans to boggle, etc.

How's that for a stretch?

Well, you are boggled down when your vehicle becomes mired along a swampy trail.
