A walk to the shops takes it out of me - do you want to do my shopping for me?

I have walked Nijmegam three times. and the website
http://www.4daagse.nl/index.asp?taal=en&pagina=homepagina&interactivepage=
is a very good place too look for news.

The experience is arduous and physically demanding and I would suggest that you do it with a team.

Prepare by taking walks on flat ground building up to 30miles a day.

make sure that in the run up to the even that you are well hydrated and nourished.

Make sure you invest in some decent trainers (do not do it in hiking boots, trainers are best)

Build up your feet up by bathing them in surgical spirits. This hardens the skin.

You will get blisters..that is a fact! take a couple of sterilised needles and some compeed plasters (they are the best)

Do not be stupid enough to drink alcohol; en route. It is a stupid plan and will just make sure you wind up in hospital! A friend of mine did this and was taken to hospital with severe dehydration.

Find a decent place to stay, most of the sports centres in the area cater for walkers and you can stay there on a camp bed.

In the evenings find a swimming pool. I found that just doing a few lenghths losened my muscles and soothed any joint pain.

Another long distance event is the munsterland marathon.

I haven't done these events myself but Cadets on my squadron have done them or are doing them soon! There is Cosford (50 miles, 2 days), Nijmegen (100miles, 4 days) and the Belgian Death March (100km, 24 hours). I know the RAF has an association the RAF WARMA (Walking and Road Marching Association) and the ATC takes part in these events. Hope this is helpful!

I went to a Bridge tournament at Nijmegen, but it was too far, really.
