From a health standpoint there is absolutely no reason to abstain from sex during your period, as a matter of fact, it is probably 99% the safest time to have sex and not become pregnant.
From a practicle side of things, it can be somewhat messy depending on which part of your cycle you are in. If the sight of blood doesn't bother either of you and if neither of you feel like it is a "dirty" thing to do, then go for it, just make sure you put a towel or something under you on the bed to keep from messing up the sheets.
Just make sure both of you are okay with doing it during that time. If not, then don't.

It is medically 100% totally okay.
Of course it's a bit messy.
If you want to do it then I recommend you put down old bedsheets you don't care about... or a red bath towel which won't show any bloodstains. ;)

its not bad but some people find it disgusting, i tried it once and its not messy, there was actually no blood on the sheets

It's a personal preference. If BOTH of you are fine with it, then it's great. But if one of you prefers not to, then you don't.
