I don't have a good memory. The speech is 6 minutes long.

If you get to choose the subject, speak on something you are passionate about and understand completely. That way you won't have to think on stage - you already know the material. Prior to the speech, think about where you want to begin and where you want to end.

As you're waiting to speak, just concentrate on your breathing - long slow intake through your nose, out through your mouth - and your first and last sentences. Remember that nervousness is completely normal - you're not alone. Everyone in the room will be as sympathetic to you as you are to the people who speak before you. Also, nervousness is physical - breathing WILL help calm you down.

When you stand up, take a deep breath, take a look at your audience. See them as human beings just like you and start talking to them as you would a friend about something you love. Once you get your and their the focus on the subject matter, then it will not be on you and your nervousness will subside.

Lastly, check the clock every once in a while. Once you get going in a mode like this time will fly. :-)

Good luck!

I remember my college days. You just have to know the topic extremely well. You need to practice your speech over and over and over until you know it by heart. Your problem seems to be ANXIETY. If your anxiety level goes up, your performance level goes down. Thus, relaxation is the key for you. I usually take deep breaths and picture myself (visualization technique) being very, very, successful. It relaxes me. Do whatever works for you. What relaxes you? Good luck friend.

Know as much as you can about the material your going to talk on. Practice your speech until you get it down. Keep seeing yourself doing an amazing job, just how you want the outcome to be. Don't focus on the negative, just think about how well your going to do..

I also have problems with nervousness before doing anything in pubilc. The fear I feel is immense. So what I do is pray to God to carry me through the ordeal. Just ask Him to help you rely on Him completely.

Read your speech until you can recite it. Then, when you get on stage, talk to the foreheads of the people in the back row OR just imagine they are all setting there in their birthday suits.

Repeat it over and over again until it comes out without you thinking about it. Do nothing and say nothing except what is on your speech. Good Luck.

forget the words. words get in the way.
get the ideas fixed in your mind. draw some pictures to help you remember, even if you can't take them on stage.
Then, once you're up there, smile at someone. When they smile back (and they will) , you will feel much more confident!
Good luck.

Relax. Pretend your blind with your eyes open and you can't see the people. Don't look at anyone in particular directly. Practice, practice, practice.
