Years ago,,,these lights where called "idiot lights" because they didnt tell you a thing about the problem you where having,,or going to have,,,many times the light would come on after the problem occured.
This is why you see guys install an after market gauge package,,which will give good information on the engine condition when you most need it.
In any event,,,most engine oil lights will take a reading from the "Oil pressure By-Pass circuit" which only indicates how much resistance there is in the oil filter,,,i would look at your mileage before trusting your engine lubrication to an "Idiot Light" any day of the week.
In my own experience,,,i will change oil every 10,000 miles and oil filters every 5,000 miles ,so that is two oil filters for each 10,000 miles,,and one oil change in the same period,,,,and i have never had an engine failure due to oiling problems.

1. Turn on the key, but do not start the motor 2. step on the gas 3 times, all the way to the floor and back off, OK 3. shut off the key Start vehicle and the light should be extinguished Very common for chevy's to do this, but check your owners manual some have a reset button on a fuse box- Friggin strange I know. Quit whining like your car is winning an argument with you about changing the oil. You just don't sound very dignified. Who changed your oil? A competent shop? They should have done this for you and if you have trouble they ought to assist you in the quest to turn off the light

The truck itself might not be burning that much oil. It is recommended that you change th oil every three monthes, but if your truck is in good shapem the engine might be able to go longer on 5 quarts of oil. I would still change it and explain it to your mechanic, maybe the relay for the light is burned out or maybe the oil is a high enough quality that it doesnt trip the wire.

If the light was reset the last oil change...... let it go till it pops up..... gm's oil life monitor has, and is pretty spot on...... some have gone over 10,000 miles using it and did a oil analysis, and it did great.

It is suppose to come on every 3,000 miles when you are suppose to change your oil, whoever changed the oil in your truck didn't reset the light; plus if you haven't changed your oil in the last 10,000 miles then you better be doing it.

Are you really serious????? No offense, but someone who has no common sense shouldn't have a vehicle worth more than $100-, and probably shouldn't be driving.
Change the oil.

the chevy check lights measure a bunch of things and come on when it's time to change. Do what the light says and wait for it.

it doesn't matter how many miles you have on it ....the check engine light comes on as soon as your warranty runs out and will go on and off till you get rid of it or break the light out !!!!!
