Harry: You realize of course that we could never be friends.
Sally: Why not?
Harry: What I’m saying is—and this is not a come-on in any way, shape, or form—is that men and women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.
Sally: That’s not true. I have a number of men friends and there is no sex involved.
Harry: No you don’t.
Sally: Yes I do.
Harry: No you don’t.
Sally: Yes I do.
Harry: You only think you do.
Sally: You’re saying I’m having sex with these men without my knowledge?
Harry: No, what I’m saying is they all want to have sex with you.
Sally: They do not. [Becoming concerned he may be right]
Harry: Do too.
Sally: They do not.
Harry: Do too.
Sally: How do you know?
Harry: Because no man can be friends with a woman that he finds attractive. He always wants to have sex with her.
Sally: So you’re saying that a man can be friends with a woman he finds unattractive?
Harry: No, you pretty much want to nail them too.

I am quite capable of "aimite en rose" I find that it is harder for the men to be able to. Have these types of relationships. Thier ego's seem to get in the way. It starts to bother them when a female is not attracted to them . There are a rare few that can, I have managed to find three in my lifetime that have been long term true friends and they are not gay, two of them are married , and thier wives have even accepted and became part of the friendship. It's possible but not usually probable.

I need clarification on this one. If I had sex with them 5, 10 or 20 years ago, but are still very close friends, is that platonic? Funny but my dearest friends are women that I have had sex with at least once. So I guess I'm no good at "pure" platonic friendship.

Yes - I truly believe in platonic friendships. I've had many. I've always gotten along well with guys - could be because I had no sisters, only brothers...who knows? Most of my best friends in my life have been guys.

one of my best friends and has been for all my life,31 yrs,,is male,,the subject has come up from time to time but i think only when a relationship ends and when one of you is contemplating what went wrong and what type of person you should be looking for,,it never is a problem though and it has never come between mine and his relationships.

It's quite easy if she doesn't look like you.
You might have difficulty getting a guy to even talk normally around you.
