I have an Amana refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom. The freezer works fine but the refrigerator doesn't cool anymore. I noticed some frost on the back of the freezer and tried defrosting it. i left it unplugged for a day and when I plugged it back in the fridge worked for a few hours but then stopped. I assume somethings freezing up but I have no idea how to stop this problem from continuing. Any suggestions?

the freezer sends cold air into the refrigerator through air holes with a fan at a adjustable damper. the freezer will frost up and must be defrosted be for the air holes fill up with frost. that is done with the defrost cycle, the fan will turn off and the freezer will heat up at the coils to about 60 F. the water will drain down through a hose to a pan on top of the compressor . If the hose is plugged with mold the water will refreeze in a solid ice cube on the coils blocking the air holes again.. if you see frost the defrost cycle did not melt the frost , you could need a new defrost timer or the 60 F thermal or heating element at the coils in the freezer.

It could be the thermastat. The only way to find out is to call a repairman. If the unit is still under warranty, you're in luck. If not, look in the yellow pages for an authorized Amana repair man.

A small fan blows cold air to the Ref section from the Freezer, also may be a small heat element to prevent frost. check both
