The American Medical Association, which has done quite a bit of study on this says 8-11% of males in all cultures.

10% is the common figure that unbiased studies (studies that don't do anything to increase or decrease the apparent percentage through manipulation of, for example protocols) show in the United States, Canada and Great Britian. In fact, a new study just came The British Government, which quanitifed only those that were openly gay, shows that offically about 6 to 7%.of the total population is gay -- which also reflects the conventional wisdom that it is 1 in 10 men and about 1in 20 women, if you think about it.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Reyn

PS Note to Rehobeth -- yes, that controversial study you reference is even more controversial since they wouldn't count anyone older than 30 -- and nearly all gays at least try to force themselves to be straight when they are teens, even if it makes them sick. By that study's parameters I wouldn't have counted as gay until I was 27. So since it was 20 to 30 year old males -- there was a 70% chance, across the spread, that they would count me as straight, even if I told them I was gay. My experiences with females were... ONE, and I in fact did throw up from it.

10% of the population is the estimate. But it depends on your definition. There was a controversial study about 15 years ago that said on 2% of the US population, but the methodology was suspect. The survey automatically threw out anyone who had had a heterosexual experience of any kind within the prior ten years of the survey.

Now if the question is about openly gay people the number is probably closer to 3-5% of the world population given the number of areas on the planet where homosexuality is either taboo or illegal

To Radagast:

thanks for the clarification. I was diggin back into my somewhat faded memory on that reference. For the record, I wouldn't have been counted as gay on that study until I was 32!

Now that you bring that up, there are many sides to it and the Census Bureau can only tap into who releases the information. The main reason to calculate is so that politicians know where to look for the votes, but organizations of this manner are watched closely as to what impact they have as a whole on Society. A dramatic change in peoples lives as a whole can cause Chaos and have a direct impact upon politicians and they do not like that and would step in and smash the organization very hard.
Example....If 50% of the AMerican people were Gay and that is a high number, but lets say it was...what impact would that have on politicians????...get my drift@!!

99.9%!!!

All of my straight friends have admitted to having a couple of homosexual thoughts either during masturbation or everyday life. They say they would never even think of going through with it. I've heard loads of people saying that everyone is gay. Even a little. ESPECIALLY if they don't admit to it. We all know denial is just a river in Egypt ;)

It depends on who you ask. Most statistics say anywhere from 5-7% to around 12%. That would also vary according to geographical area.
No one knows for sure.
