When auto companies release concepts or production models they are named R type x-type or s-type... is this a result of some standard naming procedure?

It is nothing but marketing. Supposedly they are.

R=race
S=sport or special
X=extreme

As you can see by the autos using this badging it really means nothing at all. Just something to get peoples attention trying to sell them a vechicle by making them think there's something extraordinary about that model.

No. The marketing department tries to think up clever ways to get you to remember the vehicle.
Ford Pinto was a clever name for a small Ford, when it first came out. The car was so bad, no one uses the name "Pinto" today.

It is marketing. It means different things on different models. It tends to mean Sport.
