Bill Bryson's 'Notes from a Small Island' all about the people and places in Great Britain is hilarious and very well written. It was his 'take' on the place when he and his family lived here several years ago. I laugh, every time I read it and recognise lots of people I know!!

I've read some of Bill Brysons books and they are extremely dull, for a traveller he is very narrow minded and boring.

Oh my god I LOVE Bill Bryson... my absolute favorite author. I haven't read made in america yet though... the book that got me hooked on him was 'a short history of nearly everything'. Pure genius. He is one author that I'd love to meet... and I'd love to do what he does....

It's good but, if you want an even better analysis from him of the evolution of American English, try his earlier book "The Mother Tongue". It was published in the late 1980s.

I haven't read that one - but I LOVE Bill Bryson. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go find it today.
Have you read his others? His Australia one is absolutely brilliant.
