As a young South African growing up in Durban (The city with the largest Indian population outside of India) I often came across adults speaking the Tamil language, but only a few of my friends at school, maybe 2or3 actually spoke or understood any of it, which I found sad. I think children should embrace their parents culture, despite how "uncool" they think it is. That way languages, cultures, believes and ancient tales and songs can be passed on to the next generation.
I personally thought it's a lovely sounding language, especially the singing!

It is spoken as beautiful as it is in writing. I first heard/saw it in Kerala 7 years ago. Then I heard Jesudas sing the Gaytri Mantra. Astounding!
