British english sounds more "elegant" to me (quite posh), how to describe it...its quite complex though, so many dialects throughout the UK. American english is simple. I understood everyone out there.
That s it, as a foreigner, who used to live in the USA (MO,MA,MD) and in the UK (LIncolnshire) I found british english to be more attractive. And british people have great sense of humour. Martin from Prague

Martin. Contemporary British English is NOT older than contemporary American English. ALL English dialects are exactly the same age--about one or two generations. All languages are constantly in a state of change. Queen Elizabeth II sounds just as different from William Shakespeare as does President George Bush or the Prime Minister of Australia. Indeed, there are aspects of William Shakespeare's speech that have been preserved in the southern American dialect that have been lost in other dialects of English just as there are aspects of his speech that have been preserved in Britain or Australia that have been lost in other dialects.

I agree. I live in the United States. I love the English accent and talk. I think with an accent :) Which is scary since I've done it since forever and have no idea why. I live in Ohio so we have a strange accent. I like Ohio's accent situation though. Southern Ohio is more of a Southern accent. But here in North Ohio, it's strange.
