During the night my hamster has escaped, we think she has gone underneath the floor boards beacuse there are bite marks around a gap in the floor boards - if she has gone underneath the floor boards can she get back up?

In case he can but does it when you're not around, here is a simple way to make a hamster trap.

Take a bucket or some sort of smooth sided container and lay it half on its side propped up with books. Use more books to make "steps" up to the edge of the bucket. Put your hammy's favourite food around and up the steps and more inside the container. The hamster will walk up the steps and slide down into the container. This won't hurt him at all, but because it is on a slant and has smooth edges he won't be able to get out again and so will remain there safe and sound until you return. A good hints is to include bits of apple in the food in the buckets as the apple (even when it has dried on the outside) Will retain moisture that will be good for the hamster until you can get him back in the cage and reunited with his water bottle.

Good luck.

she can get back up if it wasnt a drop to get there. can u pull one up? maybe shes not there. look behind the fridge, they are often there - dont move it though because u could squish her. also check the stove. have some broccoli or other fresh food with u to lure her in case she's there. put a bucket out with books or something leading up to it so she can crawl to the edge. make a trail of food on the books, just a tiny bit, leading up the books and then put broccoli (no water) in the bottom of the bucket. she'll fall in and be trapped and waiting for u. a small trash can or anything not too tall with smooth sides works. since u r home u can try putting her cage on the floor open and she may sneak in for food and u can catch her. if u see her but cant grab her u might put a trash can or something like that in front of her so she'll run in it or her ball if u have one. she'll come out at night hungry if u dont find her today. thats the best time to look & listen.

We had a hamster escape too. Searched for three hours only to find him a few feet away from his cage under the computer desk...my bet is to put some food out or scare it into a corner you can get to and grab it.

hamsters are only active during the night. you should buy a trap cage. The ones where you put food in the cage and once the hamster goes into the cage for the food, the door shuts.

I agree with leaving it's cage open nearby. It'll recognise sanctuary and it's normal food supply when it pops out again. I used to live on a boat and every night my hamster would get out, (took me ages to realise he could squeeze himself flat to get through the bars) but he was always back in his cage the next morning.

My hamsters escaped lots when I was a kid :( usually i'd wake up in the middle of the night and see it running across the floor so i'd leep out of bed to grab it. once though I tried to lay a trap (I was about 5 at the time lol)

I got one of those sweet tins you get at xmas, the big round ones, and propped it up with felt tips (about 20 of the things) and put her food bowl in it, thinking if she tried to get in the felts would fall over and she'd be trapped till morning.

never could work out why it didnt work :P

My hamster did that 3 times! We found there was a hole under the kitchen units which she got through. My dad had to take off the skirting boards to get her out. Once she came out on he own. Chu chu was a little rascal!

Leave food out as ours did that, he was under the gas fire, we had to sit up all night waiting for him appearing as he's a night boy or he would have been a gonner with the 2 cats.

You need a trap? she could get lost under the floorboards. Bait a trap if possible under the floorboards? use her favourite snack,
It may take some time this? We had one that used to go up inside the gas fire!!!

this happened to me when I was a kid. Angus was missing for 2 weeks and reappeared in the kitchen when I was away staying with friends. My poor mum had multiple heart attacks! good luck, you miss the little blighters when they're gone!
