Or should it be traditionally a woman's job?

I'm a nurse and I do work with several male nurses. People do seem to accept them. Every now and then an older person will confuse them for a doctor, but other wise I don't see any problem with it.

Both men and women are capable of excellent nursing skills and in the military, medics or corpsmen are almost the equivalent of a nurse (they lack the professional education) and do a fine job in Hospitals under the administrative control of more qualified nurses. In a way of thinking, most technicians in hospitals are 'nurses' male or female and do a fine job. Sex discrimination for jobs is ridiculous. It is the quality of the person that matters most...so a bad male nurse or a bad female nurse are equally unqualified but a good male nurse or a good female nurse are welcomed to serve on my medical ward anytime.

Of course it is totally respectable for men. If I was in the hospital, I wouldn't care if the nurse was a man or a woman. Just as long as they were good at their job.

It is traditionally a woman's job, but we are seeing more and more men lately. They tend to go right into the management part quickly and leave the hard, physical work to the women.

I had to spend time in the hospital after havng c-sections with both of my pregnancies. Both times I had both male and female nurses taking care of me. The male nurses were by far the most considerate, caring and willing to help me out. The women, for the most part, were always in a hurry. They didn't seem to see me as a person. In many cases they were rude or just downright mean.

From my own experience I find that men seem to be better suited for nursing.

Oh yes, please! We need more men on the floor!

I never see any working OB unfortunately, but they really add variety and spice to the workplace, an all female workplace can get pretty catty and clique-y sometimes.

I see quite a few male nurses in cardiac/tele, ER, OR, ICU, even med/surg and NICU. Also consider being an RN in the military if you are young and open to the idea of signing up. They pay well, great benefits and sign on bonuses and they'll pay for your schoo

In my opinion you should stop listening to people who puts you in a doubting perspective position.
A career that helps to save lifes is noble regardless of others opinion.
Here is a scenario. A Big beautiful lady is pregnant and in labour and there are only petite female nurses around. How are these nurse ladies going to move the Lady in labour around if there are no man to assist them in moving the patient due to her weight.
( No offense to anyone intended, the above is merely a scenario.)
So you see we need male nurses around.
Think of it this way. If there are no Male Fashion Designers in the World, the Major Fashion Houses would not be Thriving making beautiful apparel for the women of the world.Because men knows what makes a women look beautiful....well at least gay man does.

Sure it is a respectable career. I mean, traditionally women did it because they were not really allowed to do much else. And if you stick to that tradition, you should ask yourself what's with all those women voting?

For sure!

I believe to have a strong manly arms around us sounds very comforting so why deny their warmth and presence?!
It's wrong to discriminate people because of a gender issue. We aren't living in a backward world so why act indifferent....it just doesn't sound right in the modern world we live in today.
I believe it's a decent job, honorable and deserves a load of respect from healthy people or not.
