You have that option. I think the problem you have withreligion is really a problem you have with faith in disguise. Faith is believing in something that is completely uncertain, unpredictable and unknowable. That's the nature of faith. But, whether you'll admit it or not, you have drawn conclusions about God, and by doing so you have acknowledged that God may be a possibility. For example, you ask why God doesn't punish you for not believing. You acknowledge that it may be possible for some force of nature to determine your fate, by blowing up your house or taking all of your money, and - again - by doing so you admit that in your mind it's possible for something like that happen. You believe, but you overtly and explicitly make the choice to reject faith in that force. As I said, that's totally up to you, bro. Let me just offer you an alternative to thinking you have it all figured out, though. Suppose you are on your death bed, and the moment comes that you pass away and it happens that right then you truly, unequivocally realize that about God, you were wrong. The option may be presented for you to reconsider your previous certainty that faith in something larger than yourself is silly and a waste of your time, or you may not. At that point, it's up to the Judge. Wouldn't it be smarter of you to just admit that you don't know, that you can't draw conclusions on the matter because you are limited by the constraints of humanism? Doesn't that seem a little more reasonable to you? You may be right, you may not be right - but is being right so important to you that you reject the possibility of eternal life by refusing to have faith?
I couldn't care less about you, you faith, or your fate or future, my friend. It's your life, and it's your life after death. I'm an agnostic myself, but I have a much different argument than what you seem to have about my reasons, and I'm not afraid to have faith. I was 12 years old, my baseball team was losing 16-1 in the bottom of the final inning in the all-star regional finals, and we had 1 last chance - three outs - to either win the game, or lose the game. We scored 16 runs and won the game. We all had faith ithat we could do that - no one else in the whole ballpark did, but we did as a team...otherwise, we'd certainly have lost. Faith can be a strong thing to have in your toolbox of weapons, pal. Just keep that in mind as you travel through life and grow.

That's' just it. When Adam and Eve decided to eat the fruit of bad & good, they stated just that. Why do we need God to live happy and peacefull lives? The answer is: You might think your life is pretty peachy while there are millions dying, starving, getting sick.
It is God's plan for us to live forever on a paradise earth, where there will be no death or starvation or any of these bad things that happen to us.
Do we enjoy that now? I think not. The world at present is a paradise for bad, where death and destruction reigns.
See, God has allowed us the time to prove Him wrong. Thus far all we can do is prove Him right!
Do you really think you will get away with doing bad things all the time? Millions of people's actions and consequinces prove otherwise. The end result for bad is punishment.

If you really want to know the answer to that question read your Bible. Your judgment is coming and it will be more horrible than you can ever imagine. Because it hasn't happen yet don't be deceived into thinking that its not going to. There are a number of verses in the Bible to answer you. One is "some men's sins are quite evident, going before them to judgment, for others their sins follows after."
Right now God is patient with all men waiting for those who will repent to do so, but the day will come when that will be no more. You need to think seriously about this.

Religion is a device used to control the majority. The everlasting problem with religion is that it hurts everybody with a different opinion.

God is very patient when it comes to punishment. So when your punishment comes (and it will) just remember that God is finally on to you! And as far as believing in yourself, don't bet on it.

I am better knowledged about myself than anybody else and I can tell you that my beliefs are part of my principles which means that I can highly control my mind rather than my mind playing games on me....if your mind has been playing you up lately, i suggest that you seek mental re-evaluation ASAP!!!
