Ironic as it may sound, it just to show your importance. Threat to attract one's attention.On average it works though it's not always effective.Sometimes all the more the girl pull the strings,all the more the guy run loose and breaks free eventually.
It's not really on regular basis making it look "habitual" but for women it is handy to use that weapon in the hope to keep the guy every now and then.

It's no use to evaluate how women are in matters of the heart.See it as a beauty,an essence making women distinctive and unique in every way.

If you mean "whether females have the habit of threatening their boyfriends or not", then the answer is no; not the emotionally secure females.
