I'm not really worried about gaining that much muscle, i don't have lots of muscle but I have lots of fat and I want to get rid of it. The thing I hate most is the treadmill and elyptical and bike and all that cardio, I like wieghts better. SO.... which will burn more calories and help me lose weight and get more toned? High rep-low wieght or low rep - high wiegh. For example, is it better to do 30 bench presses at 65lbs or 12 at 120lbs to get toned and lose fat?

By losing wieght, I don't mean lift to lose as a plan, but that would burn calories more. I'm doing the eating right thing, and I do some cardio, but I like wieght better and wanna no which way of doing it burns more calories

Okay.No answers from weight lifters yet nor anyone who can spell scheme.Big weights and low repetitions builds far more muscle than low weight high reps.Provided you're putting the same effort into either the caloric metabolism and thermogenic activity are the same.
Building muscle even if you aren't trying to gain alot of bulk would be the better plan. For every pound of muscle that you gain you burn an additional 100 calories a day just by virtue of having it.
Weight training is superior to cardio training because the thermogenic activity lasts up to 15 hours after your work out as opposed to cardio which is only for the short period that you remain in the target heart range. For a little additional tone hold the weight at the top of the movement for 3 seconds each rep and do a couple of high rep sets at the end to burn out.Keep your protein intake high and try to split your meals into 6-8 small meals a day.Joe

High rep low weight will increase muscle tone, but you won't lose weight at all unless you burn more calories than you take in.

That means eating less if you don't want to do cardio (have you tried swimming?)

Hi
You need a professional's opinion on that ,you can get answers for that through this link so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Good luck

OK LOL....i understand you don't like cardio. Very simple increase your activity by picking up a sport you like 3-5x a wk. Try racket ball, basketball or anything just as active. It should be something that will keep your heart rate up for at least 30 mins or more. Adjust your food intake. Whether it would be be kcals, carbs, protein and lipids. As for weight training i would mix it up. Don't worry about building muscle at this time but keep track of your progress with your increase of strength.

high rep with low weights will help you build a little muscle and tone what you have. sorry to tell you, but if you want to loose weight you are going to have to do some cardio. even if its only 20 min when you first start your workout.

in response to the added detail... high rep low weith will burn more calories because in the grand sceme of it all you are doing more activity.

If you don't like cardio; then you must walk or get yourself a "step up" portable step and you can use it while watching tele or something. But lifting weights only is no good.

Yiou must still do fairly heavy weights, but keep the break time short 30-40 seconds tops. Also try to use supersets, (please tell me you now what they are!). Don't bother with that light weight crap, its old 80's mentality.

This is a very common mistake....you can only loose weight doing cardio exercises.weight training does not reduce your fat.
Cardio exercises are reccomended, they can help you to burn your fat (try cardio tae bo..I use it and I love it)
