America alone did not "save the world" as you put it. We were the biggest contributor in doing so, and the other nations could not have pulled it off without us. It was an international alliance that made it happen, but our manufacturing capability, manpower and technology is what insured a victory. Russia paid a steep price in numbers killed, but they were in serious trouble until the Allies invaded Europe and the Germans had to fight on 2 fronts. We also gave them weapons etc... to keep them in the fight. The Russian winter was probably their biggest ally, in all honesty. That, and the Russians are TOUGH. I am glad we never had to actually fight them, they are no pushovers.
For sure, America had isolationist tendencies prior to our entry into WWII. We did not want to get into "Europe's war", at least, that was a sentiment held by at least half of the population. Cowardice had nothing to do with it, the nation still had a bad taste in it's mouth from WWI and did not want a repeat. Franklin Roosevelt had concluded that there was no way that we were going to stay out of the fight, because it was eventually going to come to us, and we had commitments to our allies in Europe. He started preparing to wage war and help Britain long before we entered the war, and actually stuck his neck out by commiting nearly illegal acts to do so. It almost cost him the Presidency when he ran for his 3rd term.
If the Americans had not given the British weapons and munitions in the Lend Lease program, which was only marginally legal (including 50 destroyers and thousands of airframes), Germany would have bombed out the British infrastructure and strolled onto British soil with a minimum of resistance. It's not that the Brits were cowards or lacked the will to fight, it's that they were isolated from any allies (Most of Europe was already under German control) they had no way to get the arms and materiel that they needed to fight and win a conflict of this magnitude, and they just were not big enough. Winston Churchill wrote FDR and told him "...without your help, we are lost". Their armed forces were no where near sufficient to defeat Germany and Italy alone. America rescued them. Your statement is ill informed and not supported by fact. To say that Britain stopped the Germans is almost laughable in it's absurdity. The Brit's fought bravely and paid extravagantly, but they could never have done it alone. If you had any of your facts straight, you would know that Germany and Italy declared war on the US first, right after we declared war on the Japanese. We really did not have a choice about entering the war but when we did, the tide started to turn.
The Lusitania was sunk in 1915, 2 years prior to our entry into WW I in 1917. It helped galvanize American sentiment against Germany and it's unrestricted submarine warfare in the Atlantic, but was not the catalyst that ultimately caused us to enter the war, as Pearl Harbor was in our entry into the war in the Pacific. Here again you are incorrect.
Most of the people in Britain and the rest of Europe and Asia were good folks who got run over by bullies. I am proud of the WWII generation and what they did to rescue Europe and Asia from tyrants like Hitler and the Japanese Imperialists. If these nations had been comprised of ignorant, ungrateful jerks such as yourself, then we should have just retreated into our own country and made it into a fortess, armed ourselves to the teeth, and left you and your kind to the tender mercies of the Nazis. You are undeserving of the cost and sacrifice we made to preserve your right to even spew this kind of ignorant, mean spirited crap.

If they think that, they are wrong as usual. The wright one is , they conquered half world with WW2.
The story of the world speaking german if the Reich would have survive (since wining was imposible), is Hollywood Jew Bullshit. (apart from some parts of east europe - which they decleared as historic German territory many years before war)
The result would have been a world led by three major powers not only two.
Did anyone notice the way the war starts (poland attacking some germans soldiers in the border) is pretty much the same as in Lebanon today?

Because the US sacrificed so much for the sake of others. The French gave everything to the Germans without a fight. The US did end it with the development and use of the first atomic bomb. The US is still a world leader unlike many of the other countries in this world. The only true ally the US has is the UK.

Alright children this is the score. We Americans do think we saved the world in WW2 ask any veteran. Which is true before the war we supplied weapons and a safety zone for British ships on the western side of the atlantic until the war broke out in earnest. It should be noted America usually doesn't go looking for wars but when we are in one we fight to win especially in a world war with two potent opponents. No country on it's own would have survived without American supplies except maybe Russia but it would have been a lot more difficult for them to fight without us. As for Britain she would have run out of planes fuel and raw material without the USA as far back as 1940. No country was prepared to take on the Japanese in anyway shape or form. It was the USA that destroyed the Japanese with bit players U.K. and U.S.S.R. in short we can rightly say we saved the world!

Yeah it was a team effort, but in my humble opinion, the fate of the second world war was decided by the outcome of Operation Barbarossa.....
A decisive role was played by the USSR, USA, and Britain. THE decisive roll was played by the USSR, go ask its 20 million dead.....
Just to give you an idea of battle deaths on both sides check these out:
EASTERN FRONT:
Stalingrad: 1.8 million
Siege of Leningrad: 1.5 million
Moscow 1941-42: 700,000
Smolensk 1941: 500,000
Kiev 1941: 400,000
Vorenesh 1942: 370,000
Belarus 1941: 370,000
2nd Rzhev-Sychevka: 270,000
Caucasus 1942: 260,000
Kursk: 230,000
Lower Dnieper: 170,000
Kongsberg: 170,000
Rostov: 150,000
Budapest: 130,000
and others with less killed
Whereas on the Western Front
Battle of France 180,000
Normandy: 132,000
El Alamein: 70,000
Battle of the Bulge: 38,000

Basically we were letting the EUROPEANS handle their own PROBLEMS. And were pulled into the WAR both times due to the fact you had your A$$ handed to you. And this statement is true even today. Kinda goes like this advertisement. ***Got a problem? Are your people starving? Did your country get invaded without permission from the U.N.? Who you gonna call? Why the good ole UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! You guys couldn't even handle little old Bosnia, Macedonia and of course the on going mission in KOSOVO!!!lol I have much respect for the British. But the rest of the Europeans well how do you say? Are not up to Par with the Big Dogs!!!

Wow, what an ignorant question with NUMEROUS ignorant responses.
First off, the WW2 was not "our war." The U.S. was "supposed" to be practicing isolationist policy, though we were providing materiel to England. When the Japanese decided to force us to stay out of the conflict with Pearl Harbor, we had no choice but to fight. England didn't stop Germany, they couldn't even keep their cities from being in ruins. As far as the Soviets, Stalin threw away comrades like tissue in a flu ward... if it hadn't been for the famous Russian winters Hitler would have taken Moscow and Russia would have been neutralized. The Allies all did their part to defeat the Axis, so save your ungrateful anti-American crap for your buddies who don't base their opinions on facts.

I'm not getting into a silly debate with people who don't have the slightest knowledge of history. penphonestaple for example calls Churchill the appeaser...It was Chamberlain. For those who seem so fond of your Russian allies, just remember that Russia also would never have been in that fight had not Hitler attacked her. Russians were first fighting the Germans in self defense, secondly to expand their influence into western europe as much as possible. I'm not minimizing Britains part by any means but honestly, you wouldn't have stood a chance without the U.S. Just look at the stats on the Normandy invasion alone in terms of ground covered and enemy killed. That's not an insult...you just simply lacked the resources and manpower. I have a lot of respect for the British people....just not much for the ignorant ones of any nation.

Why would they think that? HMMM. First off they were not to cowardly to join. They simply wanted to stay out of others affairs. It had nothin to do with them till the japs attacked Pearl Harbor. Then they were forced to retaliate. The britons didnt stop them from takin over the world. When the US entered the war. Germany had control of most of Europe. Very little was not it german control. Briton was still free of germans. But every day briton was getting bombed by hundreds of german bombers. They were getting the crapped kicked out of them. The french have proven themselves useless in war and was not a threat to germany. The french resistence was helping keeping the German army at bay. THe British did help to stall the german advance. But the were about to collapse. They were slowly being pussed back by the Huge german army. Did you ever think of all the planes, ships, guns, food, medical supplies the US was sending to briton and france during the war? even before they entered it. Without all that the germans would have won easliy. With out the US states Everyone you know and i know would all be speaking german today. There is no question that without the US Germany would have one WW2. After helping to defeat Germany. The US with the help of Russia then proceded to take on Japan. They kicked the crap out of the japanese and finished off the war.

The back of the German army was broken in Russia. By the time the western powers engaged the Wehrmacht in France, the best German units were already destroyed.
That's not to say that the Americans didn't achieve victory in the west, but it's hard to say whether they would have won if Germany hadn't stupidly invaded Russia.
