Despite the fact that I knew it wasn't going anywhere and had broken up with him... I still want to be with him. Why is it so hard to let go?

The reason its so hard to let go, is because you are not ready to let go. In life when you have had your Fill, you and only you will know to let him go, until then you keep questioning yourself as to, did I do all that I could etc. Think it out and decide, if you still feel the same then get back together and make the most out of it. Thanks for asking and Aloha from Hawaii

Because you are used to him. I mean, you need him to caress you like before, you need to hear his voice, to feel his presence, to be with him and to have him "protect you" from anything bad.
It is usually because he takes a good part of your day and now that he's not, his vacant place seems empty and your day has a missing part.
It's because you have had this fixed thought in your mind...all day thinking about him, and now that you should STOP, it's hard to fit yourself into this new reality, with missing parts on it.

But you will forget him dear. Be sure about that. Time heals every wound!!!!
I can definitely say that from my experience. So live your life and force yourself to be strong and not to think about him!

You will be happy, because you deserve to be happy!
Good luck.

well sweetie,be cos you keep expecting and hoping...

you love the person so much and have got use to him so much that in-spite of all the hurt and pain you still feel things will get better.......and being with him for so long has got you habituated of him, then you are scared to think about life without him....when you will know that hes not with you anymore,no more of him and that fear of not having him around lets to to just hold on....

but the fact is to realize the trust and just move on before things get really worse and more painful!!

I had the same problem but this saying really helped me out :

" People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you'll know exactly what to do."

BECAUSE YOU GOT USED TO BE WITH HIM24/7. HE BECAME YOUR COMFORT ZONE. HAVE YOU EVER HAD A PET? IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING, YOU HAVE FORMED AN EMOTIONAL BOND WITH HIM AND THAT'S HOW TRUE RELATIONSHIPS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE. SO BEAR WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF LOVE. "YOU LOVE THEN YOU GET HURT", THAT'S THE WAY IT IS. BUT THE ECSTASY OF BEING IN LOVE IS WORTH THE PAIN, RIGHT? SO LOVE AND GET HURT AND STAND UP FROM THE FALL AND LOVE AGAIN.. SOUNDS LIKE A VISIOUS CYCLE :)

because u had someone to fall back on and now that is not the case. u r both emotionally and physically attached to someone else. keep urself busy, and surround urself w/ friends. heck even hangout w/ ur guy friends. not only will u forget about it, u will have the strength to move on to something better.
